Introduction to Clinical Sleep Medicine for APPs provides an intensive review of the essentials of sleep medicine. With both required and elective courses, the content can be tailored to your needs. Upon successful completion, you will be awarded a certificate to showcase your knowledge. 

The AASM developed the ASTEP Introduction to Clinical Sleep Medicine for APPs to equip Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) with standardized onboarding tools and the education needed to transition to a career that values collaborative, evidence-based patient care.

Intro to Clinical Sleep Medicine for APPs

Available to all health care professionals, this course consists of a series of 14 online modules along with electives that will advance your career through specialized training. 

This product includes: 

  • An Introduction to Sleep Medicine 
  • 15 hours of required courses that include fundamental topics such as Sleep 101, Adult OSA, and Insomnia
  • 14 hours of elective courses that include pediatric-specific content, BBT-I, CBT-I, and coding.

Estimated time to complete: 20 hours 

*Total amount of CME will vary from 20–29.25 credit hours based on electives chosen. 

Required courses contain 15 credit hours and each learner must complete a minimum of 5 elective hours, chosen from the 14.25 that are available.  

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. AASM designates this enduring activity for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. 

Upon completion of the course, participants should be able to do the following:  

  • Comprehend the basic concepts of sleep medicine 
  • Define collaborative sleep teams and the role of the Advanced Practice Provider within that team 
  • Acquire a deep understanding of sleep medicine by completing the chosen elective content 

Program Access

The program is available to be purchased at the cost of $525 for AASM members and $750 for non-members. Individuals will have open access to the modules for three years from the date of purchase to freely review and reference to empower APPs to support sleep centers.
